The practice of grounding and reconnecting back to Mother Earth has been transformative for my life. I have found more stillness and peace is just being in nature than I have anywhere else. I feel as though I am remembering something that I knew long ago- we are all connected and intertwined and held together by Mother Nature. I started being called back to nature nearly two years ago when my family decided to adopt our first dog, now a year and half old Rottweiler name Ace.

Ever since this sweet four-legged angel came into my life, I have felt his intuition guiding me to go back to nature. Whether we are taking walks through the damp Pacific Northwest forest or just going for a car ride with no real destination in mind, his excitement and fervor for life and exploration is a reminder daily for me of the choices we each have in how we experience the world.

One of my mentors, Mama Fish has been integral in reminding me of the simple ways we can reconnect back to the roots of where we came. Through an incredible documentary called The Earthing Movie: The Remarkable Science of Grounding, I learned about the scientific reasons why if feels just so good to walk barefoot on the beach digging our toes in the warm sand or lay leisurely in thick grass under the big blue sky. The Earth below us is alive and always absorbing energy and transmuting it.

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.
— Albert Einstein

Through Albert Einstein’s study of physics, he discovered that energy never dies or ends it just transforms into another form. If you are interested in learning in more depth the incredible process of grounding, watch the documentary below.

For myself, Earthing has become a daily energy hygiene practice. Living in the Pacific Northwest it’s rainy and a bit chilly for much of the year, making it often not extremely desirable to go for a walk barefoot outside. If you live in the city, just finding a small patch of grass or even dirt to stand or sit down on in a park is a wonderful way to connect yourself back to your roots.

During my journey of self exploration, I have been serendipitously connected with many wonderful teachers and mentors who have shared with me incredible meditations, sound healing, energy work and more. With such a grateful heart, I share a recording of a grounding meditation I use daily to center myself in the present moment. If accessible to you, this meditation can be listened to outdoors standing barefoot on the ground or any quiet, safe indoor or outdoor space. I use this practice often before meetings or public speaking engagements to recenter and release energy which is no longer serving me back to the Earth to be transformed. This meditation has become such an essential part of my self care daily practice and it is with so much love that I share it now with you.

To honor this practice’s heritage, I did not create this type of meditation. It is an age old practice with no religious connections that I am aware of. This is my interpretation of connecting in mind, body and soul back to our home, Mother Earth for our highest and great good and that of all. If this meditation resonates with you, I invite you to share it with friends or family who you feel may benefit. With so much light, love and gratitude, Erica.
