Southwest Journey Diaries- Part Two

Solo Camping Adventure at The South Rim and north Rim of the Grand Canyon

During my final time on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, though surrounded by many people, I was gifted the time and space for deep introspection on the shifts and changes occurring within me. I spent each sunrise and sunset beside the edge of the canyon embraced by the red rock and juniper trees in magnificent bloom all around me. This trip held deep significance in my own journey through grief and loss as I truly felt my mama’s spirit with me each step of the way. Observing the majestic wildlife living so harmoniously with the natural landscape taught me how I too could become more connected to Mother Earth as a whole and how everything really is connected. As my time at the South Rim concluded, I felt deeply satisfied and complete by all I had been able to observe and experience. As I journeyed west to the North Rim, I entered the sacred lands of the Navajo nation. I drove across the bridge over the Colorado River which divides the South and North Rims of the Grand Canyon. I traversed through landscapes of endless red rock into the rolling mountains of Kaibab National Forest leading me steadily to the entrance of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Once arrived at the North Rim, the pace and energy of my journey shifted greatly. After many miles explored by foot and vehicles, my body, mind, and soul was in need of rest. I found great restoration under the shade of the ponderosa pines and grand firs which held me so tenderly looking out of Point Imperial. At nearly 9,000 ft, Point Imperial is the highest point to view the Grand Canyon from and the sights were truly breathtaking. During these final days before I began my journey back home, I felt so immensely blessed by all the people, animals, trees/plants, and all of Mother Nature’s creations who I connected with. This was a journey which changed me in mind, body, and soul forever as I experienced first hand the interconnection between all.

I hope you enjoy the second part of my Southwest Journey video. This video shares my perspective of hikes and exploration of the South and North rim of the Grand Canyon during my solo adventure . The music for this video was created using a PlantWave attached to wild flowers at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon along with a reading of a poem I was inspired to write during the final leg of my journey.

Sending you so much light, love, joy and peace on your own navigation of this journey we are all on together,

Erica
